Editorial system

An editorial system allows employees to easily create and administer the content of the web presentation without the need for specialist knowledge. The presentation is then created directly by the content authors and is then published automatically, not by the IT department.

Thanks to basic workflow functionality, various employees can propose content, others can, for example, carry out language proofreading and others can then approve the resulting content. At the end of this process, the web pages are automatically published by the editorial system at the appropriate www address.

Thanks to easy editing, the Internet presentation is very up-to-date, the texts are authorised, there is no inconsistency or duplication of information and links without target pages are not automatically published etc.

An editorial system is not however a Web Content Management System (WCMS / CMS) and so for a large company, which requires systematic administration of all digital content intended not only for the Internet presentation, but also, for example, for the company portal, extranet, WAP presentation or printed catalogue, an editorial system would not be sufficient and thus a bad investment.

WCMS has at its disposal much more sophisticated and higher performance process management of administration and content publication and also better support for other company processes than an editorial system. WCMS has a wide portfolio of possibilities for publication, uses a wide range integration tools – e.g. with ERP systems (SAP, LCS Noris, Navision and similar) and facilitates administration of a much wider spectrum of digital content.

If you are deciding whether an editorial system of WCMS would be more suitable for you, it is always absolutely essential to thoroughly map out your existing requirements as well as perspectives and plans for the future.

If a company erroneously acquires WCMS instead of an editorial system, it is not only a wasted investment, but also in this case the superfluous complexity of the WCMS could soon lead to dissatisfaction on the part of the users and decrease in their productivity at work. On the other hand, purchasing an editorial system instead of WCMS could mean that the system will not be sufficient for future requirements, which could lead to very costly re-implementation.
